A variety of academic programs and student activities have been created so that you can explore every aspect of who you are and choose who you most want to become. Whether your college career is just beginning, in process or continuing after an unplanned break, we have what you’re looking for: education, professional improvement, career counseling, personal community and opportunity.

Affordability

“Can I afford it? ” Once you’ve decided to attend college, this is the question that lingers at the front of your mind. At HCC, we can confidently tell you that the answer is “Yes!” On average, Kansas residents enrolled in 15 credit hours a semester save almost $15,000 in two years at HCC, compared to other four-year universities in the surrounding area. We believe that education is important, so we’re keeping it within your reach. In addition to reduced tuition, fees and housing costs, we also provide a comprehensive financial aid and scholarship program that will help you save even more.

Accessibility

We’re a close community – both in mutual support and physical proximity – but we’re keeping the boundaries of education wide open. All HCC locations are within two hours of each other, some within thirty minutes, allowing you to explore classes and activities across multiple locations. Plus, we’re within two hours of major universities like the University of Kansas, Kansas State University, Missouri Western State University and University of Missouri KC, making it easy for students to transition to a nearby location for their four-year degree.

Transferability

The right road keeps you moving forward, even when you decide to change direction. At HCC, part of our mission in helping you to grow and advance is giving you the tools to continue learning once your work here is done. Our credits transfer easily to most major universities, whether or not you earn an HCC degree first. Simply put, everything you earn here goes with you – when the time comes to transfer and continue elsewhere, you won’t be stuck at the beginning. We know the road to knowledge never ends, so we’re here to help you go as far as you want to go.

Degrees

Know what you’re ready to study? We’re here to get you started. Or, if you’re like a lot of new freshmen, you’re still not sure which direction to take. Well, we’ve got you covered too with all of the general education classes you’ll need. Either way, HCC offers a comprehensive selection of academic programs that will prepare you for what's next. Have a more traditional professional focus? We offer everything from Psychology and Business to Education and English. Consider yours a more specialized or art-minded focus? We offer Theater, Viticulture, Music and Photography. Plus, each program offers a diverse collection of classes that allows students to customize their degree and area of focus – it’s all up to you.

Technical

You know you want training in a skilled or professional field, but you’re not yet looking for a full two-year degree. Then your journey will likely begin at the HCC Technical Center. Our technical certificate programs, which span one to two years of study, include fields like accounting, automotive and diesel technology, computer drafting and support and practical nursing; we even offer an associates of applied science degree in nursing (ADN), for those working toward LPN to RN completion. In any of these programs, you’ll graduate fully prepared to make a mark in your field – because we’ll have equipped you with all the hands-on, practical knowledge necessary to succeed.

Health Science

It’s a unique calling – the desire to care for fellow human beings. If this is your passion, you don’t have to become a nurse or medical doctor to take part. HCC’s health science programs provide you with practical options for entering the medical field. Maybe you’re interested in physical therapy or personal fitness training? Or maybe you want to dedicate yourself to becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Any of these are possible. Or, you can unlock a world of opportunities by choosing our Allied Health program, which explores several practical medical roles, including Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Nutrition Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Social Service Designee and Activity Director.
